Well it's that time again, tomorrow is international "Talk Like A Pirate Day"! I remember blogging this last year, but it may have been on my Blogger blog. Being a fan of Pirates, yes they do exist, I feel that it's my duty to pass this on to the unknowing, and few, readers that I have. You can check out the original site here. Since I am away from home, working in London this month, I'm going to save my pirate talk for when I get back home.
Here's a nice pirate game an old roomie of mine once taught me while I was living in Chico, CA. It's called mumbly-peg. For those of you who haven't heard of mumbly-peg before, it's great. Here's what's required: Beer, two people , and a knife (or screwdriver for beginners). You start out standing arms' length apart facing your opponent with your feet together. Flip a coin to see who throws first. The first person has one throw to stick the knife in the ground no further than one foot away from the others foot. If it sticks the second person has to step out to where the knife is and it's their turn. This continues until one of the two players has their legs stretched out so far that they can no longer stand up. The winner is declared the better pirate and the loser is required to fetch said winner another beer. You need to have a beer because... well why the fuck not, right? You are pirates after all. The point of the game is to have fun not to injure your opponent. Please play at your own risk and have fun!
While writing this post I wondered if Wikipedia had a post on the game. They do but... they have it wrong down to the name. You can check out their entry here but I would suggest playing my version where the objective is to aim as far away from the other person's foot (within a foot) rather than as close to your own foot as possible.
Off to dinnaarrrrrrrr!
